Watching everyday kitchen use

You have to know the habits, requirements and wishes of users if you want to develop products that are tailored to their actual needs.

Kitchen surveys worldwide –
That’s why Blum investigates the everyday use of kitchens. In the course of our kitchen surveys, we visit kitchen users in their homes all over the world.

.

We watch, analyse and strive to understand

Blum has been carrying out intensive research for almost ten years. We use video cameras and various tools such as measuring devices and questionnaires for our surveys.

The focus is on kitchen users – We have not only established country-specific differences but also a great many similarities. For example, the main worktop is ideally between the sink and hob and should be about 90 cm wide – regardless of country. Ergonomic aspects have worldwide applicability too. Kitchen users all over the world do not like to bend down, stretch or climb onto worktops to reach things.

Our kitchen surveys show us what the main activities and workflows are in kitchens. They allow us to identify the demands made of practical kitchens, for example, storage space, inner dividing systems, and tell us what is demanded of our products. The insights we gain are incorporated into the development of new products.

The UK’s Most Expensive New Build Home – The Bishops Avenue, London

This entry was posted on Tuesday, November 25th, 2014 and is filed under News

Klynstone undertook a project for Albany Homes where we supplied & fitted a range of flooring and wall cladding.

What did we do?

We supplied and installed porcelain tiles in the garden and upper bathrooms. The pictures are worth seeing!

We installed bespoke bookmatched marble cladding in 5 of the main bathrooms. They were all bespoke bathroom designs and required a lot of time and patience to get right. Marble is very difficult to work with, however out trained fitters were able to master each bathroom to perfection.

We laid over 400 sq/m of Crema Marfil marble on the floor for the clients’ specified size. Each floor tile was cut from a slab to achieve fewer joints.

We  praise ourselves in providing a bespoke service for any size project.

Porcelain or Ceramic Tiles – YOU Decide

This entry was posted on Tuesday, November 25th, 2014 and is filed under Top Tips

Porcelain VS Ceramic Tiles – Which Option Is Better For Me?

Often customers will come to our showroom and ask about the differences in the two types of well-known materials in the industry – ceramic tiles or porcelain tiles. At Klynstone over 95% of our tiles are porcelain. In this week’s blog we explain the advantages and disadvantages so you can make an informed decision about which material would suit you best for your project.

For those of you who want a quick answer the main difference between porcelain and ceramic is the density of the tile. Porcelain is manufactured so they are much denser and therefore tougher and more durable than ceramic tiles.

Manufacturing Differences:

Ceramic:

Ceramic tiles are made from a natural clay with a durable ‘glaze’ (the design) added to the face after the clay has been pressed/baked at high temperatures in a kiln to remove most of the water content.

Porcelain:

Porcelain tiles are also made from clay, but generally those of a denser nature. Finely ground sand is also added to the mix. The materials are then pressed and fired at higher temperatures (compared to ceramic tiles) and for much longer to remove practically all of the water content. This process is what makes porcelain tiles denser, less porous and more hard wearing than ceramic tiles.

Based on this information we hope you will agree with us and see the advantages of both and why we choose to supply porcelain over ceramic. If however you do still need any help or advice feel free to pop down to our showroom where one of knowledgeable sales team can guide you through the process.
